After two weeks unloading in the Port River stream and Port Adelaide’s McLaren Wharf, the City of Adelaide spent five weeks in Company’s Basin before sailing for Port Augusta on 17 August 1880, and arriving there on the 21st. She unloaded some original cargo from London, loaded her return cargo and sailed from Port Augusta on 31 October 1880. In cool and pleasant weather she was initially towed down the gulf from Port Augusta by the Lubra.

She arrived in London on 7 February 1881, a duration of 99 days.
